FCA was fortunate and grateful to be approached by Dr. Binay Shah and Tara Shah, RN of the Binaytara Foundation in 2019 to join their team in designing a Cancer Treatment focused Hospital in Nepal. The site is located in Province 2 in the lower plains of the Himal near the northern border of India. The community that will be served by the Hospital includes roughly 9 million individuals in the immediate area and 25 million in the greater regional area, and is strong need of specialty focused cancer care. Inspired by the generosity and the mission of the foundation, FCA has developed the design for a 200-bed hospital that will be a landmark in the city of Janakpur. At the building entry, a series of angled colonnades culminating in a central peak that rises above the waving, cloud-like façade recall the nearby Himalayan Mountain Range. The project broke ground earlier this year and will be completed in two phases. The hospital will provide oncology services, therapy, pediatric care, and bone marrow treatments. A central plant and research laboratory are planned for the future. In April 2022, Fong & Chan Architects attended the Presentation Gala in Seattle to raise funds for the project. Contributions may be made directly to the Binaytara Foundation.
