COPIA : THE AMERICAN CENTER FOR WINE, FOOD, & THE ARTS
FCA served as the prime architect with Polshek Partnership (currently Ennead Architects) as the design consultant for COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts. With approximately 80,000 sq. ft. adjacent to the Napa River, COPIA was designed as a cultural museum and education center consisting of exhibition spaces, classrooms, galleries, a cafeteria and dining facility, museum store, theater, separate amphitheater, and an edible organic garden.
Located in downtown Napa, COPIA held numerous wine and food tasting programs, exhibitions, and musical performances. It was envisioned as a place for the senses, and a center for the intersecting of cultural ideas and concepts, such as issues involving organic farming, arts policy, and wine marketing. As the area's leading development project at the time, COPIA influenced smaller businesses to emerge and flourish, creating the nearby Oxbow Public Market, and is currently serving as the first publicly-oriented campus for the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).
